The Los Angeles Abrasion Machine is used to measure the degradation of mineral aggregate of standard gradings resulting from a combination of actions, including abrasion or attrition, impact, and grinding in a rotating steel drum containing a specified number of steel balls. The test is widely used as an indicator of the relative quality of various sources of aggregate having similar mineral compositions. The Los Angeles Abrasion Machine tests crushed rock, slag, and gravel samples for resistance to abrasion by rotating a sample of aggregate material with steel charges for a specified period of time.

NEW DESIGN: The LA Abrasion Machine has been updated with a VFD motor drive and new controls that offer power savings, smoother running, cooler operation, and less noise from the drive system. The new control system allows users to jog the drum into position for loading and unloading test material.

The LA Abrasion Machine features a welded, heavy-duty design and is manufactured to easily match with our Quiet Roll Sound Baffle. For safety, a heavy-duty steel drum assembly is rotated by a 1 hp enclosed motor assembly.

The drum is counterbalanced to maintain uniform peripheral speed and is equipped with slip clutch coupling that relieves starting stress on the gear drive and motor. The drum can be positioned for loading and unloading using a jog button and revolves at 33 rpm.

The automatic pre-set digital counter turns off the motor after the drum has completed the number of revolutions set by the operator.
