Sieving And Screening

To determine how different sizes of aggregate particles are distributed within a sample, you will need to perform an ASTM sieve test. It’s important to determine the size of particles in an aggregate sample to make sure those aggregates will perform as you expect them to in the field. By performing ASTM aggregate testing and sieve analysis, you can figure out exactly how to use your aggregate and refine your production methods.

The process for conducting an ASTM sieve test is pretty simple. You need to stack sieves of varying sizes from large to small on top of each other, then pour your aggregate sample on top. Using a mechanical shaking device, you will vibrate the sieves for a predetermined time period until the material falls through the sieves. By analyzing how much of the aggregate remains in each sieve, you can perform ASTM aggregate testing and sieve analysis.
