Special Tests
If you want to determine how an aggregate will hold up against disintegration due to freeze-thaw cycles, you’ll need to run a sulfate soundness test. To do so, you can submerge your aggregate sample into water that’s saturated with either magnesium sulfate or sodium. By analyzing how much salt forms in the aggregate’s porous openings and determining the weight loss for the sample, you can assess its freeze-thaw resistance.
