Elcometer 331² Model SH Covermeter with Half-Cell is used to determine the depth and placement direction of No 2 to No 14 (5 mm to 50 mm) reinforcement bar inside in-place concrete. The half cell attachment identifies the potential for corrosion.

Fully interchangeable search heads (standard, narrow pitch and deep cover) are purchased separately. The photo shows the covermeter with standard head.

The covermeter unit consists of a battery powered control unit with digital display reading depth to two decimal places. A loud audio signal indicates rebar location and direction. The hand-held detection head connects to the control unit by coaxial cable. The unit is powered by a The 7.4V lithium ion battery pack that provides up to 32 hours of continuous use (20 hrs if backlight is on). It is rechargeable in 4 hours either inside or outside the gauge using an external charger.

The deep cover search head can measure up to 8 in (205 mm). It contains state-of-the-art microprocessor technology with a full menu-driven LCD display.
