Permeability
Soil permeability tests analyze how quickly water moves through a soil sample. Water is introduced to the soil at a known pressure, and the flow is measured to determine how permeable the soil is. For the most part, sandy or rocky soil will be highly permeable, while soils with high quantities of clay will have much lower permeability. To determine the permeability of your soil sample, you’ll need a permeameter.
Depending on the type of test you need to conduct, you will find the tools you need in our inventory. For compaction tests, you might be interested in our compaction permeameters. These devices use standard six-inch compaction molds to perform falling or constant head tests. The top and base are constructed with anodized aluminum, while the mold and collar are made with corrosion-resistant plated steel. This permeameter includes two shut-off valves, an air bleed valve, tubing, porous stone, and sealing rings.
We also sell five different sizes of our constant and falling head permeameter. These permeameters allow you to conveniently change sample lengths by using spacers attached to the top cap spring, and they have a one-piece acrylic chamber that permits sample viewing during the test.
