Capping Compound Hi-Cap2

Hi-Cap2 Capping Compound is used during concrete sample preparation for compressive strength testing by adhering in its liquid-viscous state to cover all imperfections or rough surfaces and creating a totally flat parallel surface. Hi-Cap2 is supplied in easy-melt thin flake form and provides exceptionally easy and convenient handling and melting compared to ingots or briquettes. It is also an economical alternative to neoprene pads. The Hi-Cap2 compressive strength is consistent from one bag to the next which ensures high strength from cap to cap.


Features:

  • Carefully plasticized to provide even load distribution during compression testing with no deformation. It sets rapidly to exhibit a minimum compressive strength of 8000 psi after cooling two hours, in accordance with requirements of ASTM C-617, Standard Method of Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens.
  • Once returned to a solid state, its compressive strength increases. In about 2 hours a 2-inch (51 mm) cube breaks at 8,000 psi to 9,000 psi (55.16 to 62.05) MPa. You can use it on concrete with strength up to 16,000 psi (110.32 MPa) with confidence.
  • Melting range of 230°F to 240°F (110°C to 116°C) and an optimum pouring range of 265°F to 290° F (129°C to 143°C). If accidentally overheated, it remains usable when cooled to the proper temperature. The excess poured and solidified material can be remelted without loss of properties.
  • Heat-purified (degassed) to reduce fumes and odors, produces less dust during testing, and dries at a faster rate.
  • Maintains its full compressive strength and bond to concrete even when capped specimens are stored at 100% relative humidity prior to testing and does not degrade during storage or use.
