This table top direct shear utilizes pneumatic loading for applying the vertical load to the sample. Uses two pneumatic pistons and eliminates the need for numerous weights used in dead weight systems. A small piston applies loads from 4 lbs to 100 lb (1.8 to 45 kg). A larger piston applies loads up to 1,500 lb (680 kg). Vertical load is applied by setting precision regulator to a required pressure per the calibration chart. Two decimal place readout is accurate to 0.25%.
Model LA-3731-01 Digital version includes displays for horizontal and vertical displacement, transducers for shear load, pressure (vertical load) and strain rate set with cycle counter from 1 to 99, ASCII format output through RS 232 serial data port. Viewing of displays is not dependent on computer hookup.
A PC computer 386 or higher is required. The digital version includes “GETDATA” (data acquisition and data transfer software).
All models have built-in pressure and load readouts used for setting vertical load and measuring shear forces. Includes 2.5 in (63.5 mm) diameter shear rings, porous stones, drainage plates and water chamber. Maximum shear displacement is 0.8 in (12.7 mm). Travel is set with limit switches. Motor drive controls strain rate within 1% and is easily set with digital thumbwheels. Each digit represents 0.0001 in/min (.00254 mm/min) strain rate and can be controlled from 0.0001 in to 0.3 in/min (.00254 to 7.62 mm).
CONSTRUCTION:
The direct shear has a 1.25 in (31.7 mm) thick solid base for the vertical and horizontal loading. Shear box assembly is mounted on a steel cabinet. The shear rings and water chamber are corrosion resistant anodized aluminum.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Strain rate is 0.0001 in to 0.3 in/min (.00254 to 0.162 mm/min). Horizontal movement is 0.8 in (20.3 mm). OD are 14.5 in D, 30 in L, 22 in H (368 x 762 x 559 mm). Electrical requirements 110V, 60Hz, 1Ph. Net Wt. 190 lb (86 kg). Model LA-3731 Standard version includes: load cell and readout for shear load, dial indicators for consolidation and shear displacement.
