Easy to use, the PVD (Perpendicularity Verification Device) is designed to rest on the lower platen of a testing machine to provide an accurate verification of cylinder perpendicularity to demonstrate compliance with ASTM C39. The PVD is configured to reach the test specimen while avoiding contact with the top and bottom retaining cups. A Gap Measurement Tool is also provided. The tool is used as a “go”/ “no-go” check before breaking the specimen. Note: units are sold separately.
The latest revisions to ASTM C39/39M require verification that alignment is within ±0.5° of vertical for each specimen tested when Unbonded Caps are used.
After the specimen loading has commenced, but before reaching 10% of the total load, the PVD is held on the bottom machine platen and manually positioned against the cylinder. The included Gap Measurement Tool is used to check the gap between the device and the cylinder. If the Tool does not pass through the gap, the test can continue.
Please note that the LA-4004 is designed for standard retaining cups and no spacer. The LA-4004-01 is designed for use with a 4 inch high X 7.5 inch round or square spacer.
